Phazon is developing wireless earbuds that offer some benefits over similar headphones that are already in market.  Namely Phazon claims that its wireless earbuds are more comfortable than competing earphones and will actually stay in your ears even while exercising.  According to Phazon their earbud design is superior to other earbuds because they twist into your ear as opposed to being held in place with an insert or piece of foam.  Phazon claims that its earbuds will stay in place when you dive into water, jog around a track or even jump from an airplane.

To create and launch its wireless earbuds, Phazon ran a crowdfunding campaign that started in November 2015 and was fully funded in January 2016.  The company raised $1,718,425 which was well in excess of the $80,000 funding goal.  Phazon raised the money from over 8,000 backers and has set a target date of September 2016 for delivery.

Since the Phazon got so many backers for its earbud crowdfunding campaign, the founder Chris Houle has to spend time answering a lot of questions.  The questions appear to arise on a daily basis, and cover a multitude of subjects, including:

  • What type of shipping will be used for overseas orders?
  • When does the pre-production phase start?
  • How do the earbuds sound?
  • What is the most popular earbud color?
  • When will I get my t-shirt?
  • How do I update my shipping address?
  • Will the headphones get disconnected if something get between them and the source?

If you are fortunate enough to run a crowdfunding campaign that is as successful as Phazon earbuds, then you can expect the same multitude of questions.  You will get questions not only about the technical details of the product you are crowdfunding, but also questions about shipping and handling, due dates and so on.  It is important that you try and figure as much of this out in advance of your crowdfunding launch so you can have more time to develop your product and less time answering a lot of questions.

There are a couple of things you can do to try and anticipate many of the questions you will receive.  Firstly, study other crowdfunding campaigns that offer a product that is similar or in the same category as yours.  For instance, if you were going to launch a crowdfunding campaign for a headphone oriented product, then you would want to search Indiegogo and Kickstarter for successful campaigns in the same category, like Phazon, Axent, Nextear, OSSIC X and Melomind and do the following:

  • Read through the comments
  • List 10 to 20 questions that seem to be common to all of the headphone products
  • Answer them for your headphones or earbuds

Once you can answer these questions for your headphones, write them down prior to launch and place them in a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section on your campaign page and website.

In addition to product specific questions, there are also questions (regardless of the product being funded) that are common to many crowdfunding campaigns.  For instance, many crowdfunding campaigns get questions on how international shipping will be handled.  Questions are about which carriers you are going to use, and how you will get the products through customs.  As with the product oriented questions, you also should address these common questions prior to launch and put them in your FAQ.

The more you can figure out prior to launch will save you time later on and ultimately lead to a more successful crowdfunding campaign.
