The Flux electric bicycle claims to be the best ebike on the planet because its electric motor is housed between the pedals in the crankshaft.   According to the company this motor placement makes it more efficient and delivers more torque and higher performance than other e-bikes that use a hub motor configuration.   The Flux bike also comes with a variety of additional features including an integrated lithium battery that will take you 46 miles on a single charge, a backlit LCD display that tells you how fast you are going, and hydraulic disc brakes to help you stop safely.

The Flux ebike is coming to market via a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.  So far the campaign has raised more than $800,000 through 1,100 backers and has far surpassed its original flexible funding goal of $50,000.   If you check out the Flux page on Indiegogo, you will note that the company keeps backers engaged by providing updates about its electric bike and responding to almost every comment that it receives.

Nearly since the day it launched, the Flux team has been providing backers with a wide variety of updates, including:

  • Amount of funding received
  • Reviews from trade publications
  • Setting stretch goals that will enable additional features
  • Taking surveys on colors and accessories
  • Doing a pre-launch free ebike giveaway
  • Showing pictures of where the batteries are made

If you are thinking about running a crowdfunding campaign to launch your startup, then you should take a lesson from Flux and provide as many updates as you can to keep your backers informed.  This will make them feel like they are part of the team that is bringing your new product to market.  Additionally having an engaged audience gives you a good sounding board if you run into any development obstacles that will require a decision to move forward.
