Nervana is developing a new type of ear buds that synchronize sound with nerve stimulation to get users naturally “high” while listening to music.  This euphoric feeling is achieved through the Nervana generator and headphones that stimulate the Vagus nerve and causes the release of dopamine into the brain.  Both the generator and earbuds contain proprietary technology to process the music signal and cause the desired Vagus nerve stimulation.

Nervana is currently running a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo that has only a few days left before it is placed InDemand.  So far the campaign has raised more than $500 thousand through 1970 backers and is at 679% of its flexible goal.  The timing of Nervana’s launch coincides well with all the publicity it received from publications like USA Today and Consequence of Sound, as it was started shortly after receiving their positive reviews.

As you consider launching your crowdfunding campaign, you can use things like free publicity to boost your chances of reaching your funding goal.  Take a page out of Nervana’s playbook and try to run your campaign at about the same time that the reviews are published.  Ideally you can get the writer to include some details about what platform (like Indiegogo or Kickstarter) you are using and when the campaign will launch.

Additionally, you should include any positive reviews you receive about your product on your crowdfunding page and website to build credibility with potential backers.  To make all of this happen in a timely manner takes a lot of advance planning.  You need to get the word out about your product and crowdfunding campaign to bloggers and writers well in advance of the actual launch date (think 3 to 6 months).  This gives them enough time to review your story, decide if they like it, develop an article, get it approved for publication, and then schedule it in their publication.
