Decibulllz developed custom fit wireless headphones that are easily molded to your ears.  You simply heat them in hot water and then mold them to fit in your ears.  The Decibullz headphones are made of a material that can be heated over and over again whenever a different shape is required.  According to Decibullz these earphones use state of the art technology that deliver a clear and balanced sound.

In order to create and launch the custom fit wireless earphones, Decibullz ran an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign at the end of 2015 and raised over $300,000 from 609 backers.   The campaign was fully funded on December 12, 2015 and reached 507% of its original goal.  One factor leading to the success of the Decibullz fundraiser was the use of BackerKit which is a crowdfunding pledge manager.

Crowdfunding pledge managers help you with much of the behind the scenes work that is required to effectively manage a campaign, including:

  • Managing backer surveys to help you gather the “right” information
  • Track and manage backers until they receive their reward
  • Selection of the correct packaging material
  • Send shipping notifications to backers
  • Help sell additional products
  • Manage inventory and monitor limited supply products
  • Support digital downloads
  • Ensure that backer questions are answered

Pledge managers charge a percentage of your campaign proceeds in exchange for providing these reward fulfillment and shipping services.  The actual amount will vary depending on which services you use, but estimates are in the 0 to 2% range.  Also, you can expect to pay a set-up fee to get started.

Although no one wants to give up an additional 2% of their funds, these third party service providers claim that they can increase the amount of funds pledged by nearly 9%.  So they more than cover their costs by helping you to make additional add-on sales.

If you expect to run a big crowdfunding campaign, that will net hundreds or thousands of backers, you certainly want to consider a pledge manager to help handle the all of the logistics.  That way you can spend more time developing your product and working on the next iteration and less time on fulfillment and shipping.
